Disucssion of available drivers for the FTDI232R USB UART chip.
D2XX drivers allow direct access to the USB device through a DLL. Application software can access the USB device through a series of DLL function calls.
Uses FTD2XX.DLL.
The D2XX interface provides special functions that are not available in standard operating system COM port APIs, such as setting the device into a different mode or writing data into the device EEPROM.
In the case of the FTDI drivers for Windows, the D2XX driver and VCP driver are distributed in the same driver package, called the Combined Driver Model (CDM) package.
Virtual COM port (VCP) drivers cause the USB device to appear as an additional COM port available to the PC. Application software can access the USB device in the same way as it would access a standard COM port.
